  • Hand Operated Suction Dredge Head And Hydraulic Submersible Pump Assembly

    view source
  • US Patent:
    43522513, Oct 5, 1982
  • Filed:
    Jan 5, 1981
  • Appl. No.:
    6/222742
  • Inventors:
Albert H. Sloan - Fort Lauderdale FL
  • International Classification:
    E02F 388
  • US Classification:
    37 58
  • Abstract:
A portable and lightweight suction dredge head which is held by a diver and is hand operated so as to be easily moved about in the working position. These heads are, for example of sizes from three inches to eight inches in intake diameter. The dredge head is used for excavating under water and is of the suction type wherein the material is conveyed away from a suction pipe from the dredge head. A jet digger may also be used with the dredge head. A manually operated valve on the dredge head permits the operator to regulate the amount of suction at the inlet of the dredge head and is capable of reducing the amount of suction so as to permit the operator to (1) adjust the density of the material being conveyed, that is regulate the amount of sludge or trash relative to the amount of water that is being conveyed, (2) control the digging aggressiveness of the dredge head, or (3) easily remove foreign material such as rocks, cans or other matter from the inlet of the dredge head or free his hand or foot if it accidently is grabbed by the dredge head. The head is rotatably mounted on the suction pipe which leads to a remote location whereby the head can be easily rotated at the most desirable digging position, and means are provided for insuring that the swivel coupling remains clear of sand or the like and freely operative. The above dredge head together with a hydraulically driven submersible pump assembly act to eliminate pump priming difficulties and pump sealing problems due to abrasive material, and provides good net positive head, horsepower, speed control, safety and mobility.

  • Portable Hot Water System For Diver's Suit

    view source
  • US Patent:
    43903053, Jun 28, 1983
  • Filed:
    Jan 12, 1981
  • Appl. No.:
    6/224007
  • Inventors:
Albert H. Sloan - Fort Lauderdale FL
  • International Classification:
    B63C 1102
    A61F 706
  • US Classification:
    405186
  • Abstract:
Portable apparatus for supplying hot water to a diver's suit and which has a portable water pump that can be located closely adjacent a water source so as to minimize the lift required by the pump, a compressed air source that normally furnishes compressed air to the breathing apparatus of the diver and which is also used to drive the water pump by means of an air motor, a portable water heater having a source of fuel for heating the water is connected to the discharge side of the water pump for receiving cold water and heating it, the hot water is discharged from the heater and is mixed with cold water to the desired temperature and then furnished to the diver's suit. All of the components of the apparatus are portable and the entire system is flexible as to its location and set-up, there being no fixed apparatus or installations required. The water pump is operated by the air compressor which furnishes compressed air to the breathing apparatus of the diver and the pump can be remotely located from the heater and is located adjacent the water source so that the net positive suction head required by the pump is satisfied. The pump is also pressure compensated so that the pressure can be set and the pump will supply the amount of water at a particular pressure on demand, and the air consumption of this positive displacement pump is limited to a reasonable amount and does not unduly burden the diving system.

  • Appl. No.:
    5/922038
  • Inventors:
Albert H. Sloan - Fort Lauderdale FL
  • International Classification:
    B01D 2306
  • US Classification:
    210241
  • Abstract:
A dewatering separator device for separating solid particles such as sand, gravel, or the like from a liquid, such as water, and thereby preconditioning the water either for further filtering elsewhere or for permitting the water to be accepted in storm drains. The separator device is of the gravitational flow type and includes a plurality of vertically arranged tubes, each of which has small apertures in the form of thin slits in their side wall. The mixture of solid material, i. e. , sand, gravel, and the like, and water is dumped through the top of the tubes, causing the heavier solid material to pass through the tubes where it is collected in a constituent trap, and from which the material is periodically discharged at one location. The water passes through the small slits in the sidewalls of the tubes and is discharged from the separator device separately from the solid material. The device has a movable support to render it portable for transport to different job sites.

  • International Classification:
    B62D 6304
    H02J 100
    H02J 300
  • US Classification:
    322 8
  • Abstract:
An adjustable speed propulsion engine for a boat also drives an electric generator which supplies electric power to an electric load circuit on the boat. A solid state electronic control circuit senses when generator voltage departs from a voltage "window" or range defined by preselected low and high voltages (as a result of a departure in engine speed from a cruise speed range to some lower or high speed) and operates a contactor to disconnect the generator from the load circuit to prevent low or high voltage damage to electrical equipment on board. The electronic control circuit operates the contactor to reconnect the generator to the load circuit only when generator voltage rises to a preselected initial turn-on voltage which is above the preselected low voltage but below the normal rated voltage of the generator. The electronic control circuit includes time delay means to prevent a transient low voltage condition ("flicker") from causing disconnection of the generator from the load circuit.
