  • Artificial Fishing Lure

    view source
  • US Patent:
    40516199, Oct 4, 1977
  • Filed:
    Sep 27, 1976
  • Appl. No.:
    5/727027
  • Inventors:
Bingham A. McClellan - Traverse City MI
  • Assignee:
McClellan Industries, Inc. - Traverse City MI
  • International Classification:
    A01K 8500
  • US Classification:
    43 4224
  • Abstract:
An elongated, worm shaped, body of flexible plastic material is molded with a head end somewhat thicker than its tail end, and with a multiplicity of radially projecting spines projecting from its surface from end to end. The spines are arranged in adjacent rows from end to end of the body, and alternate spines in each row are longer than intermediate spines. A fish hook has its shank passed at an angle axially back from the head end of the worm until its eye engages the front end of the body. The shank projects rearwardly at an angle from the body, and the curved hook extends forwardly with its point projecting through the body. The barb is embedded in the body of the worm and the longer spines project beyond the top of the point.
  • Fishing Lure With Interchangeable Spinner And Hook Connections

    view source
  • US Patent:
    41213661, Oct 24, 1978
  • Filed:
    Jul 25, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/818551
  • Inventors:
Bingham A. McClellan - Traverse City MI
  • Assignee:
McClellan Industries, Inc. - Traverse City MI
  • International Classification:
    A01K 8500
  • US Classification:
    43 4209
  • Abstract:
A central support of piano wire has a straight center section with a return bend forming a hook receiving eye on its rear end with a locking spur projecting forwardly from the eye. The front end is twisted into a line receiving eye with a stirrup extending from the end of the twist in spaced relation to the center section and terminating in a hook releasably engaged with the center section. Slidably engaged on the wire are spacing elements including a spinner rotatable about the center section, and an elongated body having a longitudinal bore receiving the wire and a weight mass eccentric to the wire. The rear end of the mass defines a longitudinal slot opening radially from the bore and receiving the locking spur in non-rotary engagement when the body and the spacing elements are slid rearwardly on the center section and retained between the hook receiving eye and the hook on the stirrup.
  • Magnetic Fishing Hook Guard And Method

    view source
  • US Patent:
    49226452, May 8, 1990
  • Filed:
    Aug 21, 1989
  • Appl. No.:
    7/396302
  • Inventors:
    Douglas Hannon - Odessa FL
Bingham A. McClellan - Traverse City MI
  • Assignee:
McClellan Industries, Inc. - Traverse City MI
  • International Classification:
    A01K 8300
  • US Classification:
    43 424
  • Abstract:
Magnetism is used to reduce the tendency of a fish hook to snag. A magnet may be attachted to a fishing rig, or part of the rig or a hook may be magnetized, so as to attract a movable hook to a relatively shielded position in contact with the rig where the hook is less likely to snag than when it hangs loosely or is free swinging, or magnetism may be used to hold a weed guard in a position where it shields a hook. The strike of a fish can pull the hook free from the magnet or weed guard and enable its point to penetrate the mouth of the fish.

  • US Patent:
    47441682, May 17, 1988
  • Filed:
    Jul 11, 1986
  • Appl. No.:
    6/884551
  • Inventors:
Bingham A. McClellan - Traverse City MI
  • Assignee:
McClellan Industries, Inc. - Traverse City MI
  • International Classification:
    A01K 8500
  • US Classification:
    43 4224
  • Abstract:
A multi-part artificial fish lure has a flexible worm that has been Texas-rigged on a hook, with the eye of the hook extending ahead of the worm. A flexible, resilient floating head has a central longitudinal hole through which the fishing line passes before being tied to the hook eye. The eye is much wider than the hole in the floating head; when the eye is forced into the hole, the inherent resilience of the material from which the head is made causes the inside surface of the hole to tightly grip the hook eye and thereby to hold the parts of the lure in their proper fish attracting relative positions and to prevent the parts from separating.
  • Releasable Clamp For Elongated Objects Such As Fishing Rods

  • US Patent:
    41323815, Jan 2, 1979
  • Filed:
    Oct 6, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/839773
  • Inventors:
Bingham A. McClellan - Traverse City MI
  • Assignee:
McClellan Industries, Inc. - Traverse City MI
  • International Classification:
    A47F 500
  • US Classification:
    248316R
  • Abstract:
A clamp of molded thermo-plastic material in soft and semi-flexible but self supporting condition has a thin rectangular back strip attachable to a supporting surface and bendable to conform to curved surfaces. A rod support arm projects from the intermediate portion of the back strip with upwardly inclined and vertically spaced upper and lower bars. The ends of the bars are connected by an outwardly and upwardly concave hook having serrations on its face. An integral web connects the bars, hook and back strip. The outer end of the hook has spaced downwardly facing transverse notches in its lower side. An integral strap projects from the back strip above the upper bar, and divides into divergent fingers with a cross piece on their outer ends. The strap and fingers are tensioned when engaged over the end of the hook.
