Democrat Joyce Dickerson and Jill Bossi of the American Party unsuccessfully challenged Scott in the senate race. South Carolina Republican Lindsey Graham was also sent back to the Senate, having handily defeated his seat for a third term.
Scott, a Republican, defeated his black Democratic challenger, Joyce Dickerson of Columbia, and Tega Cay's Jill Bossi, a candidate in the newly formed American Party, according to The Associated Press.

Two Republicans compete for the unexpired two-year term U.S. Sen. Tim Scott was appointed to fill when Jim DeMint resigned in 2012. The winner will face Democrat Joyce Dickerson and American Party candidate Jill Bossi in November. Sen. Tim Scott, R-Charleston, also won his GOP primary Tuesday easily, defeating Greenville Republican Randall Young. Scott also will be the heavy favorite in November, when he will face Democrat Joyce Dickerson, a Richland County Council member, and American Party candidate Jill Bossi of Tega Cay.
