    Sep 27, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/967440
  • Inventors:
    Alex A. Lopez-Estrada - Chandler AZ
Mark P. VanDeusen - Chandler AZ
  • Assignee:
Intel Corporation - Santa Clara CA
  • International Classification:
    G10L 1904
  • US Classification:
    704219, 704222, 704225, 7042001
  • Abstract:
According to one aspect of the invention, a method is provided in which audio samples representing an input audio signal are received. The input audio samples are transformed into a vector of spectral values in a frequency domain. A value of a quantizing parameter is determined that satisfies one or more criteria based, at least in part, on a modified Newtonian search process, the determined value of the quantizing parameter being used to quantize the respective vector of spectral values to generate a vector of quantized values.
  • Audio Coding And Transcoding Using Perceptual Distortion Templates

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7020603, Mar 28, 2006
  • Filed:
    Feb 7, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/071653
  • Inventors:
    Alex A Lopez-Estrada - Chandler AZ, US
  • Assignee:
Intel Corporation - Santa Clara CA
  • International Classification:
    G10L 19/00
  • US Classification:
    7042001, 704500
  • Abstract:
A system and method of encoding an audio stream includes generation of a distortion threshold templates database that is accessible by a perceptual audio encoder. The audio encoder utilizes the threshold templates to operate a compression algorithm, obviating the need to implement a psycho-acoustic model to generate a distortion threshold for each compression operation. A similar templates database may be used in a transcoding operation, again bypassing a psycho-acoustic modeling operation and promoting system efficiency.
  • Perceptual Normalization Of Digital Audio Signals

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7050965, May 23, 2006
  • Filed:
    Jun 3, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/158908
  • Inventors:
    Alex A. Lopez-Estrada - Chandler AZ, US
  • Assignee:
Intel Corporation - Santa Clara CA
  • International Classification:
    G10L 19/00
  • US Classification:
    7042001, 704500, 704501, 704502, 704503, 704504
  • Abstract:
A method of normalizing received digital audio data includes decomposing the digital audio data into a plurality of sub-bands and applying a psycho-acoustic model to the digital audio data to generate a plurality of masking thresholds. The method further includes generating a plurality of transformation adjustment parameters based on the masking thresholds and desired transformation parameters and applying the transformation adjustment parameters to the sub-bands to generate transformed sub-bands.
  • Navigation For Mpeg Streams

  • US Patent:
    7139470, Nov 21, 2006
  • Filed:
    Aug 17, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/932806
  • Inventors:
    Alex A. Lopez-Estrada - Chandler AZ, US
Jeffery S. Peel - Chandler AZ, US
Ajit P. Joshi - Hillsboro OR, US
  • Assignee:
Intel Corporation - Santa Clara CA
  • International Classification:
    H04N 7/26
    H04N 5/91
  • US Classification:
    386109, 386 46, 386 95, 386125
  • Abstract:
Navigation information can be generated from compressed and packetized MPEG streams, and the navigation information then placed in a separate navigation file that can be accessed to permit navigation functions to be performed during decompression and playback of the MPEG stream. An authoring tool may be used to parse the MPEG stream and generate the navigation data. The navigation data may then be used to select individual start points, different audio channels, special effects, etc. , during playback.

  • Partial Output Finite Impulse Response Filter

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7509364, Mar 24, 2009
  • Filed:
    Jan 31, 2005
  • Appl. No.:
    11/047791
  • Inventors:
    Alex A. Lopez-Estrada - Chandler AZ, US
  • Assignee:
Intel Corporation - Santa Clara CA

    G06F 17/10
  • US Classification:
    708319
  • Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided to implement an efficient partial output finite impulse response (FIR) filter. In one embodiment, the filter operates by first receiving a set of samples from a streaming data source via a communications medium. Next the set of samples are organized into a convolution matrix which is decomposed by generating a plurality of diagonal matrixes, each diagonal matrix corresponding with a pre-addition and a post-addition matrix. The filtered samples are generated, in one embodiment, using the plurality of diagonal matrixes, and the filtered samples are output to a communications medium.
