Abstract:
A method is described for detecting total end-to-end loss of data packets in a packet network that does not require direct access to the packet network. A test signal is generated at a source end point indirectly coupled to the packet network. The test signal is transmitted over the packet network to a destination end point also indirectly coupled to the packet network. At the destination end point a modified test signal is received and examined to detect irregularities and then processed to determine whether the irregularities in the recorded signal represent packet loss.
A method of measuring echo path delay in a circuit having echo cancellers after enabling an echo signal to pass through the echo cancellers. The known time for a given echo canceller to disable is subtracted from the overall test signal duration. This quantity can be subtracted from the overall echo duration to compute the echo path delay.

Abstract:
A method for the performance testing of an echo canceller including the steps of transmitting a test signal to the echo canceller, recording an echo energy signal output from the echo canceller as a result of the test signal, measuring the energy and duration of the echo energy signal and calculating a performance score for the echo canceller based on the measured energy and duration of the echo energy signal, wherein the test signal transmitted to the echo canceller has a plurality of discrete frequency band segments of white noise representing sub-bands of an overall bandwidth ranging from about 0 kHz to about 3. 5 kHz. The test signal preferably has four discrete frequency band segments of white noise, wherein each discrete frequency band segment of the test signal is repeated in succession, whereby the test signal has a total of eight segments. Thus, the test signal can have a first frequency band segment having a bandwidth of about 0 kHz to about 1 kHz, a second frequency band segment having a bandwidth of about 1 kHz to about 2 kHz, a third frequency band segment having a bandwidth of about 2 kHz to about 3 kHz and a fourth frequency band segment having a bandwidth of about 3 kHz to about 3. 5 kHz.

US Classification:

Abstract:
This is a method for use in a teleconference that troubleshoots echo problems. After receiving a code to begin the troubleshooting process, all legs of the teleconference are muted except a test leg. That test leg is evaluated for echo. The process is repeated for each of the legs of the teleconference. After automatically measuring echo on all legs, results are reported to a moderator or host, who can take action such as muting all legs with echo, or discussing remedial action with each participant on a leg with echo.

Abstract:
A VAD/SS system is connected to a channel of a transmission pipe. The channel provides a pathway for the transmission of energy. A method for operating a VAD/SS system includes detecting the energy on the channel, and activating or suppressing activation of the VAD/SS system depending upon the nature of the energy detected on the channel.

Abstract:
Systems and methods to measure the performance of a de-jitter buffer are disclosed. In a described example, a method to measure adaptive de-jitter buffer performance includes transmitting a known audio signal via a plurality of packets over a packet-based network, recording a received signal based on the known audio signal, and analyzing the recorded signal to determine one or more of a lower de-jitter buffer size, an upper de-jitter buffer size, a de-jitter buffer expansion speed, or a de-jitter buffer contraction speed based on the recorded signal and the known signal. The example method further includes comparing the one or more of the lower de-jitter buffer size, the upper de-jitter buffer size, the expansion speed, or the contraction speed to a performance requirement, and correcting communication network performance based on the comparison.
