A shower apparatus for a seated occupant includes a tub having a body compartment for receiving the torso of an occupant in a seated position and a foot compartment for receiving the feet of the seated occupant. A seat is provided with a through opening positionable over a through opening in the bottom of the body compartment, both through openings being positionable over the bowl of a stationary floor toilet. A shower head/sprayer is provided to introduce a flow of water into the tub for showering the seated occupant. The shower head/sprayer is attached to one end of a water conduit with the other end of the water conduit having a fitting for attaching the conduit to a source of water, such as an existing faucet. Water is drained from the body compartment by gravity feed through the body compartment through opening and into the toilet bowl. Water is drained from the foot compartment by use of a pump which moves the water along a pump conduit and into the toilet bowl.
A water caddy for capturing, containing, transporting, and emptying a fluid includes an open top fluid container pivotally attached to a cabinet set on wheels. The fluid container is pivotable between a fill position in which the container receives fluid through the open top and an empty position in which fluid is emptied from the container through the open top without having to lift any portion of the cabinet. A pneumatic actuator interconnecting the cabinet and fluid container assists the user in emptying the fluid container by urging the fluid container toward its empty position. The water caddy may be dimensioned to enable a user to conveniently empty captured fluid directly into an existing floor toilet. One or more brakes are employed to inhibit inadvertent movement of the water caddy as it is being filled or emptied.
A waste receiving device for disposing of fecal waste from an incontinent person being bathed. The waste receiving device includes a receiver and a waste processing mechanism that discharges processed waste to a waste water drain. The waste processing mechanism includes a strainer and/or a masticator for processing the fecal waste such that the processed waste has a maximum solids size that is suitable for passing through the waste water drain. The strainer is a filter with one or more openings that are sized to pass only waste that is not larger than the maximum solids size. The strainer, in one embodiment, is incorporated in a removable basket. The masticator, in various embodiments, is a manually operated mechanical reducer or a powered reducer, such as one operated by pressurized water.
Apparatus for a perineal wash system, including a seat with a pair of pads and/or a conduit that redirects fluid from a hand-held spray nozzle to the perineal area of a person on the seat. The pads are separated and have front and rear access areas dimensioned to allow a caregiver to access the perineal area of a seated person. In one embodiment one pad is movable sideways. The frame supporting the seat is spaced a sufficient distance from the gap between the pads to not impede access to the perineum. In one embodiment a perineal washer is supported adjacent the seat. The washer receives a nozzle of a hose sprayer and redirects the fluid spray through a movable elongated conduit to direct a spray of liquid upward to the perineum. In one embodiment a commode pot below the seat has a gap sufficient to avoid pinching dangling body parts.
Apparatus for a perineal wash system includes a seat with a pair of pads spaced apart front to back to define a gap. The pads and frame define front and rear access areas dimensioned to allow a caregiver to access the perineal area of a seated person. In various embodiments at least one pad is movable sideways and may include a biasing spring, an operating handle, and/or a latch. The seat is suitable for a shower chair, a wall-mounted chair, and a bathtub chair. A gas spring optionally lifts one end of the seat. In one embodiment a perineal washer is supported adjacent the seat. The washer receives a nozzle of a sprayer and redirects the spray through a movable conduit to direct liquid upward to the perineum. In one embodiment a commode pot below the seat has a gap sufficient to avoid pinching dangling body parts.
Apparatus for covering the tire of a wheelchair to prevent contact with the tire by the chair's occupant. A pair of fenders cover the upper portion of the large tires on a wheel chair. Each fender includes a body, a front attachment, and a rear attachment. The body is configured to cover the top and a portion of the front of the large tire. The front attachment connects the front of the body to a member on the wheelchair, such as the frame or the handbrake associated with the tire. The rear attachment connects the rear of the body to another member on the wheelchair. The front and rear attachments support the body a slight distance above the large tire. In one embodiment the fender is movable radially relative to the wheel such that the chair's occupant, by pressing down on the fender, is able to brake the wheel.
