  • Filed:
    Jan 14, 1977
  • Appl. No.:
    5/759313
  • Inventors:
Richard D. Chapman - Pensacola FL
Donald A. Holmer - Pensacola FL
George A. Mortimer - Pensacola FL
  • Assignee:
Monsanto Company - St. Louis MO
  • International Classification:
    C08G 6928
  • US Classification:
    528313
  • Abstract:
An improvement in the process for preparing random copolyamides by the melt polymerization of a mixture of hexamethylenediammonium terephthalate and hexamethylenediammonium isophthalate is described. The improvement comprises accomplishing the melt polymerization in the presence of a small amount of a certain phosphorus compound, such as benzene phosphinic acid, whereby ammonia formation during polymerization is reduced.

  • US Patent:
    43035779, Dec 1, 1981
  • Filed:
    Nov 16, 1979
  • Appl. No.:
    6/095865
  • Inventors:
James S. Ridgway - Pensacola FL
Donald A. Holmer - Pensacola FL
Oscar A. Pickett - Pensacola FL
  • Assignee:
Monsanto Company - St. Louis MO
  • International Classification:
    C08K 542
  • US Classification:
    260 4575C
  • Abstract:
Novel compounds produced by reacting 5-sulfoisophthalic acid or a salt thereof (e. g. the potassium salt) with a water soluble copper salt (e. g. cupric acetate monohydrate) are described. The compounds are effective antiozonants for polyamide fibers, particularly, when the fibers are dyed with disperse dyes. Generally, sufficient amounts of the compounds are incorporated into the fibers to provide from 10 to 100 ppm, on weight of fiber, of copper.
  • Dimensionally Stable 6Ta/6Ia Fibers

  • US Patent:
    40227561, May 10, 1977
  • Filed:
    Apr 9, 1975
  • Appl. No.:
    5/566551
  • Inventors:
Richard D. Chapman - Pensacola FL
Donald A. Holmer - Pensacola FL
Oscar A. Pickett - Pensacola FL
James H. Saunders - Pensacola FL
  • Assignee:
Monsanto Company - St. Louis MO
  • International Classification:
    C08G 6926
  • US Classification:
    260 78R
  • Abstract:
Dimensionally stable fibers are produced from copolymers prepared from substantially equimolar amounts of hexamethylene diamine and a 50:50 to 80:20 mixture of terephthalic and isophthalic acids by heating essentially amorphous fibers melt spun from the copolymers to a temperature between about 160. degree. C. and 300. degree. C. for a short period of time. The dimensionally stable fibers combine many of the best properties of nylon 66 and poly(ethylene terephthalate) and are particularly useful in tire and textile applications.
