  • International Classification:
    F16D 33/06
    B60K 11/00
  • US Classification:
    180 681, 192 584
  • Abstract:
A viscous fan drive for an engine cooling system has an output coupling defining a fluid operating chamber, an input coupling disposed in the fluid operating chamber, and a driveshaft coupled to the input coupling and defining a driveshaft axis. A main bearing has an inner race coupled to the driveshaft and an outer race coupled to the output coupling, the main bearing defining a bearing axis, wherein the bearing axis is normally substantially coincident with the driveshaft axis. A brace is disposed between the outer race of the main bearing and the output coupling. The engine cooling system may be provided on a machine having a rotatable frame that promotes precession of the output coupling, wherein the brace prevents movement of the main bearing along the driveshaft in response to the output coupling precession.

  • Abstract:
A frameless heat exchanger for transferring heat from a fluid circulating therein to a surrounding environment is arranged and interconnected to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of its parts. The heat exchanger includes a plurality of hollow tubes each extending between a first end and a second end. The tubes are arranged into a tube core where the tubes are parallel to and aligned with each other so that the first ends align and the second ends align. The tubes are joined along their first ends by a first manifold and along their second ends by a second manifold. The plurality of tubes and the first and second manifolds are interconnected for relative movement between the plurality of tubes to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction of the plurality of tubes.
  • Plunger Cavity Pressure Control For A Hydraulically-Actuated Fuel Injector

    view source
  • US Patent:
    20040046056, Mar 11, 2004
  • Filed:
    Aug 30, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/231812
  • Inventors:
Dongming Tan - Dunlap IL, US
Thomas McClure - Washington IL, US
Scott Schuricht - Normal IL, US
Yongxin Wang - Bloomington IL, US
  • International Classification:
    F02D001/06
  • US Classification:
    239/500000
  • Abstract:
A fuel injector in an engine includes a spring cavity, a piston, a plunger, a spring, a fuel cavity, and a stop plate. The piston is hydraulically controlled to force the plunger down to compress fuel in the fuel cavity. However, under certain conditions, the plunger can contact the stop plate and/or the spring can become overcompressed. Both of these conditions can cause damage to the fuel injector. The present invention locates a pressure equalization channel in such a way as to dampen the motion of the piston to prevent this damage to the fuel injector.
