Abstract:
A process for conditioning an electrochemical cell comprising the steps of fabricating an electrochemical cell comprising a first electrode which comprises a carbonaceous active material and a lithium polysilicate binder, a second electrode, and an electrolyte, and controllably cycling the electrochemical cell, and in turn, forming a passivation layer near the interface between the first electrode and the electrolyte.
Electrochemical Cell Having An Interface Modifying Component And Associated Fabrication Process
An electrode for use in an electrochemical cell comprising a current collector, an electrode active material layer, and means for substantially increasing surface compatibility between the electrode active material layer and at least one of the current collector and an associated electrolyte. The surface compatibility increasing means includes at least a portion of the electrode active material layer associated with an interface modifying component, such as the product of a hydrosilated allylether.

Abstract:
A holographic recording medium comprises (a) an acid generator capable of generating an acid upon exposure to actinic radiation; and (b) a polymer comprising a plurality of high refractive index moieties, a plurality of low refractive index moieties, and a plurality of acid-sensitive linking groups connecting the high and low refractive index moieties. When an interference pattern is formed within this medium, in the light areas of this interference pattern acid is generated by the acid generator and cleaves the acid-sensitive linking groups, thereby causing separation of either the high or the low refractive index moieties from the polymer, and formation of a hologram within the medium.

Abstract:
A pre-passivated electrode for use in an electrochemical cell comprising an uncharged current collecting substrate, an active material layer associated with the substrate, and a solid electrolyte interface layer associated with the active material layer. The pre-passivated electrode fabricated in accordance with the present invention exhibits, among other things, increased coulombic efficiency and capacity.

Abstract:
A modular drill guide for use in securing a spinal fixation plate to a spine is provided. The drill guide generally includes a shaft having a proximal end and a distal end adapted to engage a spinal fixation plate, and at least one guide member removably and replaceably matable to the shaft. The guide member can have a connector member with at least one bore extending therethrough for receiving at least a portion of the shaft, and at least one barrel formed thereon and defining a lumen for receiving a tool, such as an awl, a drill bit, a fastener, or a driver device. The shaft can optionally be coupled to an elongate member having a proximal end and a distal end. The barrel(s) include a bore formed therethrough for receiving a tool.

Abstract:
Bone plates and bone plate systems are provided in which a bone plate includes first and second longitudinally extending rails, with a plurality of bone screw holes formed therein. At least one transverse strut connects the first and second longitudinally extending rails, each of the at least one transverse struts being disposed between adjacent bone screw holes formed on the same longitudinally extending rail. The bone plate system can additionally include a plurality of bone screws adapted for placement within the bone screw holes and a guide device. The guide device can register with at least one bone screw hole of the bone plate by placement of an alignment element upon a portion of the bone plate external to one of the bone screw holes such that one of the bone screws can be installed in one of the bone screw holes of the plate through the guide barrel while the guide device is registered with at least one of the bone screw holes.
Disclosed is an optical disk, card or media which comprises: a) a plurality of data structures that are readable by the interrogating beam of light; and b)a composition on or in the optical disk, card or media disposed so that when the optical disk, card or media is used in the optical read-out system, the interrogating beam of light passes through the composition before or after contacting some or all of the data structures. The composition comprises a polymeric matrix with an organometallic complex dissolved therein or with metal, transition metal, metal oxide or transition metal oxide nanoparticles uniformly dispersed therein. The composition is substantially transparent to the interrogating beam and/or is substantially colorless. Alternatively, the composition comprises a solid polymeric matrix with an olefinic compound dissolved or uniformly dispersed therein wherein double bond in the olefinic compound undergoes oxidative cleavage promoted by a transition metal catalyst and a thiophenol or a catalytic amount of a thiyl radical and wherein the composition is substantially transparent to the interrogating beam and/or is substantially colorless.
