Abstract:
A system and method for efficiently transmitting useful electronic information from a remote source location to a portable electronic device over a wireless connection is disclosed. A user of an electronic device issues a request to an information transmission system that electronic information be transmitted to the electronic device. The information transmission system retrieves the information from a remote source location and analyzes the information to determine its data format. The information transmission system then compares the data format to a list of supported or compatible data formats to determine if the requested information data format is supported. The information transmission system may also compare the source location of the requested information to a list of unacceptable source locations. The requested information may then be transmitted to the electronic device if the information has a supported format and an acceptable source location

Abstract:
A system and method for displaying and navigating content on a electronic device is disclosed. The system and method provides information describing files stored in one or more memory units in a electronic device by first cataloging file metadata residing at a plurality of memory units into a corresponding plurality of databases. The system and method then aggregates the file metadata cataloged in the plurality of databases into a single list, and delivers the aggregated file metadata list to an application running on the electronic device.

Abstract:
A system and method of providing a user interface jump list application is disclosed, which reduces multiple functions into a single user interface function for electronic devices such as portable or mobile devices having computing and communication capabilities. First, the user interface jump list application provides a list of applications executing in the background on the electronic device. Second, the user interface application provides for the ability for the user to close, kill or quit (by giving an instruction) the application running in the background without having to activate or launch that application. The user interface application indicates applications that are active in a different font so the user can easily differentiate an application that is active from one that is not. The user interface application additionally provides a list of important or favorite applications for quick access and a list of recently used applications for quick access. A user can easily launch an application from this list.

Abstract:
Methods and systems are described herein for providing streamlined access to media assets of interest to a user. The method includes determining that a supplemental viewing device, through which a user views a field of view, is directed at a first field of view. The method further involves detecting that the supplemental viewing device is now directed at a second field of view, and determining that a media consumption device is within the second field of view. A first media asset of interest to the user that is available for consumption via the media consumption device is identified, and the supplemental viewing device generates a visual indication in the second field of view. The visual indication indicates that the first media asset is available for consumption via the media consumption device, and the visual indication tracks a location of the media consumption device in the second field of view.

Systems and methods for presenting custom navigation options are described herein. In some embodiments, the media guidance application displays a first portion of a media asset, and receives a user selection of an entity depicted within the portion. The media guidance application identifies a playlist of media asset portions associated with the entity, and generates for display a transport bar associated with the entity comprising an indicator identifying the entity and only one or more regions associated with the playlist of media asset portions. The media guidance application then receives a second user selection, and generates for display a second portion of the media asset associated with the entity in response. In some embodiments, the media guidance application identifies the playlist by searching a custom presentation database for entries associated with the entity, and retrieves the playlist from the identified entry.

Abstract:
A client determines that a user is attempting to access media program recommendations. In response to the determination, the client attempts to collect media program recommendations to be presented to the user. Media program recommendations may be derived locally by the client, by the client and a multimedia device locally connected with the client, by the client and one or more additional devices, etc. In some embodiments, in response to receiving a query from the client, one or more recipient devices or servers identify media program recommendations in a plurality of trending categories. The media program recommendations may be selected based at least in part on EPG data and audience research and measurement data. The media program recommendations collected by the client are presented to the user for further exploration. The client may be one of mobile phones, tablet computers, etc.
Systems And Methods For Displaying Subjects Of An Audio Portion Of Content And Searching For Content Related To A Subject Of The Audio Portion
- San Jose CA, US Gabriel Dalbec - Morgan Hill CA, US Nicholas Lovell - Santa Clara CA, US Lance G. O'Connor - Sunnyvale CA, US Susanto Sen - Bangalore, IN
Systems and methods are described herein for displaying subjects of a portion of content and searching for content related to a particular subject in the content. Media data of content is analyzed during playback, and a number of audio signatures are identified. Each audio signature is associated, based on audio characteristics, with a particular subject within the content. The audio signature is stored, along with a timestamp corresponding to a playback position at which the audio signature begins, in association with an identifier of the particular subject. Upon receiving a command, icons representing each of a number of audio signatures at or near the current playback position are displayed. Upon receiving user selection of an icon corresponding to a particular signature, a portion of the content corresponding to the audio signature is played back or a search is performed for content related to the signature represented by the selected icon.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for ensuring that sufficient network bandwidth exists to support proper operation of an IPTV service. An application monitoring device monitors one or more networked devices that collectively run an IPTV application and various other applications. The application monitoring device determines the amount of network bandwidth used by these various other applications. If the applications use sufficient bandwidth that an insufficient amount remains for proper operation of the IPTV application, the application monitoring device may reduce the amount of bandwidth used by the various applications. Bandwidth reduction may be accomplished by, for example, identifying certain applications that consume excessive bandwidth, and instructing the applications to close, throttle their bandwidth usage, or pause one or more operations.
