Abstract:
Methods for installing bone anchors, such as pedicle screws or other surgical screws. In some implementations, the surgical screw may be coupled with a connection member, such as a tulip assembly, configured to couple the surgical screw with a stabilization member, such as a spinal fixation rod. The connection member may be initially coupled with the surgical screw in a polyaxial configuration, after which the connection member may be secured to the surgical screw in a monoaxial configuration. The stabilization member may then be coupled and secured with the connection member such that the stabilization member cannot move relative to the connection member. In some implementations, the stabilization member may be locked or secured to the connection member after the connection member has been secured to the surgical screw in a monoaxial configuration.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to an alternatively monoaxial and polyaxial pedicle or other similar surgical screw that can be used in a polyaxial manner and then locked or otherwise secured at a desired angle or orientation, i. e. used in a monoaxial manner, prior to engaging a rod or other similar stabilization member with the pedicle or other similar surgical screw. In other words, the present invention provides a pedicle or other similar surgical screw that can be selectively used in either a monoaxial or polyaxial configuration, as is desirable in a particular application or at a particular point of a given surgical procedure.
Polyaxial Pedicle Screw Locking And Derotation Instrument
A pedicle screw locking and derotation instrument, comprising: an elongate actuation mechanism, wherein the elongate actuation mechanism comprises a pair of elongate arms that are pivotably hinged to one another and comprise a pair of handle portions; and a pair of clamp members coupled to the elongate actuation mechanism and deployed by actuation of the elongate actuation mechanism; wherein each of the pair of clamp members comprises a retention portion configured to selectively and securely engage a threaded shaft of a pedicle screw and a portion configured to selectively and securely engage a head body of the pedicle screw, thereby holding the threaded shaft and the head body in rigid alignment; wherein each of the pair of clamp members comprises a retention portion that is configured to be selectively disposed beneath the head body of the pedicle screw and about the threaded shaft of the pedicle screw.
