  • Abstract:
Disclosed is a workflow management system for creating and delivering output material. A customer record is generated to include fields specifying at least one product, customer preferences, and a selected output method to deliver generated output material on the product specified in the customer record. A job record including a status field is added to a job status table for the customer record and set to a first status. A first worker generates output material from processing the product and customer preference fields in the customer record for the selected job, and sets the status for the selected job to a second status. A second worker determines a selected one of a plurality of delivery options from the customer record for the selected job and transmits the output material via the determined delivery option to the customer specified in the customer record.

A customer record in a first database table is interactively generated to include fields specifying at least one product, preferences, and a selected output method to deliver output material on the product specified in the customer record. At least one customer record in the first database is received and at least one content file is accessed by processing a second database table using values in one received customer record. The content of each accessed file is then generated into the output material. A selected one of a plurality of delivery options is determined from the customer record and the output material is transmitted via the determined delivery option to the customer specified in the customer record.

A job record including a status field is added to a job status table and set to a first status. A first worker is invoked if the selected job has the first status to generate output material from processing the product and customer preference fields in the customer record for the selected job. The status for the selected job in the job status table is set to a second status after generating the output material with the first worker. A second worker is invoked if the selected job has the second status to determine whether a selected one of a plurality of delivery options from the customer record for the selected job and transmits the output material via the determined delivery option to the customer specified in the customer record.

The job control sheet is partitioned into a plurality of control zones. Each zone contains dedicated marked sense information for controlling the input work stations, the network nodes and the output work stations. The input work station includes a marked sense recognition device which coacts with the job control sheet to identify the presence or absence of the control zones. Marked sense information which is associated with the input station control zones is extracted and utilized to control the input work station. The marked sense information which is associated with network nodes control zone is encoded and transmitted with identifying marks to the network nodes for further processing. The marked sense information which is associated with the output station control zone is extracted, encoded and is transmitted to the network node.

A computer-controlled printing system includes a host computer, an intelligent printer and an intelligent post printer processor. The print job is controlled by defining print data, printer control data and printer post processor control data in a print data stream from the host computer. The print data and printer control data are read at the intelligent printer. The intelligent printer executes the print control data to print the print data on a print medium. The printer also determines if there is post processor control data in the print data stream and, if so, sends the post processor control data from the printer to the intelligent post processor. The post processor reads the post processor control data, and executes the post processor control data to perform selected modification of the print medium. Selectable modifications of the print medium at the post processor include predetermined fixed printing of images, symbols or text, perforation of the print medium, cutting of the print medium, or user defined modifications of the print medium.
