Abstract:

A sensing device is used to consolidate and time-synchronize Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or other clinical data from patient monitoring devices provided by a plurality of different vendors having proprietary event data formats. The automation of logging of events due to external forces applied to patient monitoring devices detected by the sensing device improves the timing in and completeness of nurses' notes. Furthermore, the sensing device provides an easy way to synchronize or consolidate data from multiple vendors' patient monitoring devices.

Abstract:

A system and method for automatically detecting abnormal heart contractions originating in the ventricles, in a way that is independent of signal morphology is provided. As an uninterrupted series of ventricular detections indicates a possible ventricular arrhythmia, all ventricular beats are detected including isolated premature ventricular contractions (PVCs) and the associated R-R intervals are corrected. Premature ventricular contractions (ectopic beats) in non-standard lead configuration in a noisy signal from an ambulatory subject from a low-cost sensor that may be a small form factor sensor with 1 inch lead separation and may be rotated through multiple placements to correct an R-R interval time series used to detect atrial fibrillation.

Abstract:

Embodiments of the present invention provide devices and methods for monitoring the waste output of one or more individuals. Embodiments provide a waste receptacle equipped with one or more cameras capable of imaging the contents of the waste receptacle and optionally a scale that is capable of measuring the weight of the waste receptacle or the weight of the contents of the waste receptacle. The waste receptacle optionally communicates wirelessly with a base station that is able to store images of the contents of the waste receptacle and communicate automatically with remote caregivers. Algorithms are provided that are capable of providing a signal to a caregiver to alert the caregiver if the waste receptacle is not in use.

Abstract:

Many embodiments may comprise logic such as hardware and/or code to implement user interface for traversal of long sorted lists, via audible mapping of the lists, using sensor based gesture recognition, audio and tactile feedback and button selection while on the go. In several embodiments, such user interface modalities are physically small in size, enabling a user to be truly mobile by reducing the cognitive load required to operate the device. For some embodiments, the user interface may be divided across multiple worn devices, such as a mobile device, watch, earpiece, and ring. Rotation of the watch may be translated into navigation instructions, allowing the user to traverse the list while the user receives audio feedback via the earpiece to describe items in the list as well as audio feedback regarding the navigation state. Many embodiments offer the user a simple user interface to traverse the list without visual feedback.

Abstract:

A method for automatically detecting atrial fibrillation in a non-standard ECG signal having changing morphology and containing significant muscle noise generated by an ambulatory subject is provided. A morphology independent QRS detector is used to compute R-R intervals in the ECG signal. The variance of the R-R intervals over a sliding window is normalized and compared with a threshold to determine if atrial fibrillation is present within the window.

Abstract:

An apparatus for measuring volume of a lower extremity includes a substantially elastic sock body with a leg end, a toe end, and a length between the leg end and the toe end. The sock body may be dimensioned to substantially snugly receive a lower extremity. A measurement thread is attached to the sock body in a manner that causes the measurement thread to wrap around the lower extremity in multiple coils along the length of the sock body. The apparatus also includes a measurement gauge that measures at least one attribute of the measurement thread that corresponds to sock volume. In one embodiment, the measurement thread is substantially inelastic and has a fixed end, and the measurement gauge measures length of the measurement thread between the fixed end and the measurement gauge. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
