A single mother whos trying to raise children and trying to make a living is better off with a job than no job. And if you set an artificial minimum wage, some jobs are going away, its just that simple, said Rep. Jerry Torr (R-Carmel).

Indiana debates becoming first rust belt right-to-work state
The bill's sponsor, Republican Indiana State Rep. Jerry Torr, has been introducing similar legislation since 2004. He said the bill is about "fairness and freedom" for individual employees to decide whether they want to associate with a union.
The legislation, sponsored by state Rep. Jerry Torr,R-Carmel,makes it illegal for workers in a union shop to berequired to pay a "fair share" for union services, such ascollective bargaining. The bill exempts construction workerunions.

All Republicans on the committee voted yes and all five Democrats, to the cheers of union members, voted against it, arguing that it will hurt wages in Indiana.Rep. Rep.
