Abstract:
A shielded antenna system is provided for reading from and/or writing to an RFID transponder wherein the energy radiated from the antenna system has a narrow beam width so that only one RFID transponder in a record member along a web of record members, each having an RFID transponder, is read from and/or written to without affecting or being affected by any other RFID transponder along the web.

Abstract:
A shielded antenna system is provided for reading from and/or writing to an RFID transponder wherein the RF energy radiated from the antenna system has a narrow beam width so that only one RFID transponder in a record member along a web of record members is read from and/or written to without affecting or being affected by any other RFID transponder along the web. It is preferred to provide shielding that enables more energy to be radiated in the upstream direction from the antenna than in the downstream direction from the antenna to provide for earlier reading and/or writing to the transponder in the moving web. The shielding is selectively configured and/or positionable to narrow or broaden the RF energy field of the antenna.
A system and method for encoding and printing RFID record members with a continuous moving web is provided. In particular, a printer such as a RFID printer is capable of encoding an inlay or multiple inlays within a record member while the web is continuously moving. While a record member is being encoded on a moving web, the record member may be printed upon when a leading edge of a record member reaches the print position.

Abstract:
An electronic article surveillance system employs a resonant tag attached to an article being protected. An interrogation transmitter whose transmission frequency is periodically swept through the resonant frequency of the tag is positioned near an exit of the protected area. The resonant tag is periodically energized by the transmitter as the transmitter frequency passes through the resonant frequency of the tag to cause the tag to emit a periodic tag signal at the sweep rate of the transmitter. The tag signal is received by a receiver that generates an alarm upon the detection of a tag signal. The receiver employs synchronous integration in the form of a dual channel synchronous video integrator to independently process positive and negative pulses of the tag signal in order to differentiate the tag signal from extraneous signals and noise.

Abstract:
A multiple loop antenna particularly suitable for use with an electronic article surveillance security system for detecting the presence of a resonant tag employs first and second shielded twisted loops lying in a common plane and having portions thereof interleaves with each other. The loops are electrically coupled to each other and to a common transmitter or receiver. The loops may be fabricated from coaxial cable to achieve the shielding function at low cost while providing design flexibility.
