Levine stepping down as Boston Symphony Orchestra music director
Levine, 67, the 14th music director in the BSOs 129-year history, has served as music director since 2004, leading an artistic revival of an orchestra many felt had begun to stagnate under his processor, Seiji Ozawa. During his tenure, Levine helped the BSO revive its recording program, launch a European tour and present newly commissioned works from the American composers he championed, among them Milton Babbitt, Elliott Carter and John Harbison.
