Methods, compositions and systems for preventing an adverse reaction of the skin to the presence of a skin-sensitizing and/or skin-irritating agent by administering an effective amount of phenoxyacetic acid and/or a lower alkyl ester thereof to a warm blooded animal.
Anti-irritant botanical extracts, and a method for screening, and then preparing, anti-irritant botanical extracts for use in topical formulations, providing a natural ingredient capable of preventing skin irritation when in combination with other active and inactive ingredients that have the potential to irritant skin.
Novel Topical Delivery System For Plant Derived Anti-Irritants
A thixotropic microemulsion for the treatment of mammalian skin; and methods for the preparation thereof; and skin treatment formulations formed therefrom. The delivery system is an oil-in-water type emulsion that is especially useful as a vehicle for the delivery of hydrophobic and hydroalcoholic plant extracts having anti-irritant and/or anti-oxidant properties. The delivery system is comprised of natural, hydrophobic, chemically-modified type starches and polysaccharaides. Among the oils preferred in this embodiment are: mineral oil, petrolatum jelly and silicone oils, either added singly or in various combinations. Among surfactants employed as emulsifiers are: either a cationic detergent, e.g., benzalkonium chloride, an anionic, e.g., sodium lauryl sulfate, and a non-ionic detergent, e.g., Triton X-100 or combinations of oils and surfactants. The resulting emulsion is a semi-viscous and thixotropic gel, which is stable upon prolonged standing at ambient storage temperature.
Moisture-Activated Release Of Fragrances From Novel Pourable Lotion Formulations
A method of sequestering volatile fragrances by encapsulating them in the oil phase of a thixotropic microemulsion, and drying to a thin film, and subsequently releasing the volatile oils upon rehydration of the dried film; compositions comprising the volatile fragrances encapsulated in the oil phase of a thixotropic microemulsion, which compositions may also contain temperature sensitive ingredients; and a wound dressing comprising a dried film formed from a thixotropic microemulsion.
Hydrocarbon Fume Suppression By Higher Vapor Pressure Temperature Oils
Methods and compositions for suppression hydrocarbon fumes, and cooking oil fumes, by applying a non-volatile organic compounds having a vapor pressure temperature greater than the vapor pressure temperature of the hydrocarbon fume constituents, or cooking oil fume constituents; said compositions may include delivery vehicles such as 70% ethanol, or thixotropic lotions, to produce remediation formulations that may be sprayed or spread onto the surfaces from which the fumes are emanating; also included is an insect repellant, comprising non-volatile organic compounds having a vapor pressure temperature greater than the vapor pressure temperature of the human pheromones and body odors with attract biting insects.
Prophylactic And Therapeutic Treatment Of Topical And Transdermal Drug-Induced Skin Reactions
Botanically derived anti-irritants for prophylactic and therapeutic treatment of adverse skin reactions from application of transdermal or topical drug delivery system, permits the effective administration of a drug from a delivery system in which the drug, of a component of the delivery system comprises a skin irritant; and the delivery systems formed thereby.
A method is disclosed for suppressing low vapor pressure sulfurous fumes generated by sulfur-containing organic compounds, such as is found in personal hair care products. The method includes the step of applying a liquid with a higher vapor pressure temperature than the sulfur-containing compounds to materials contaminated with the sulfur-containing organic compounds.
