Abstract:
A liner assembly () includes a drill string () to drill a borehole () in a formation (). The liner assembly further includes a liner assembly releasably coupled to the drill string to move with the drill string in the borehole while the drill string drills, and to be released from the drill string in the borehole after the drill string drills to a depth.

Abstract:
A fluid control valve for use in retaining well treatment fluids above a circulating valve and packer in a tool string. The fluid control valve comprises a ball seat with a seating surface thereon, a sealing ball for sealingly engaging the sealing surface, and a push rod. The ball seat and push rod are relatively movable so that as the packer is set and the circulating valve is moved toward a closed position, the push rod is brought into engagement with the ball so that it is moved off the ball seat, allowing fluid flow thereby. A ball cage extends from the ball seat for guiding the ball and limiting radial movement thereof when the circulating valve is open. A retrieving neck may be connected to the fluid control valve so that the fluid control valve may be retrieved while leaving the rest of the tool string in the well bore.

Abstract:
A long stroke packer for use in a well bore. The packer has a housing assembly with an operating mandrel assembly disposed therein. A packer mandrel assembly is slidably connected to the housing assembly. During operation, the operating mandrel assembly may be actuated to cycle a tool below the packer without setting the packer. After the operating mandrel assembly and housing assembly are moved a predetemined amount with respect to the packer mandrel assembly, the housing assembly is brought into contact with a sliding shoe on the packer mandrel assembly which in turn engages and deforms packer elements into sealing engagement with the well bore.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing a block squeeze cementing job. The invention provides for perforating the wellbore above and below the desired well formation on a single wireline trip and setting a lower packer on a wireline above the lower perforations. A stinger is positioned in the lower packer, and secondary packer elements on an upper packer are set above the upper perforations. Cementing of the lower perforations is carried out through the lower packer. The secondary packer elements are unset, and the stinger is repositioned adjacent to the upper perforations. Primary packer elements on the upper packer are then set, and the cementing of the upper perforations is carried out through the upper packer and stinger. Setting of the secondary packer elements requires only vertical movement of the tubing string and no rotation. Both cementing steps are carried out on a single tubing trip.

Abstract:
A resettable well stimulation tool is lowerable into a well bore on a length of tubing through which pressurized fluid may be forced into the tool to inflate a packer portion carried by the tool and then discharge a stimulation fluid into a portion of the well bore sealed off by the packer portion. During the inflation cycle of the tool pressurized fluid is forced downwardly into an annular tool body inflation chamber that communicates with an inflatable packer carried by the tool body. A perforated tube member coaxially carried in the inflation chamber serves to vertically distribute the inflation pressure along the length of the packer and assure its even inflation. In a straddle packer embodiment of the tool inflation and stimulation passages extend internally through the tool and are sealingly separated by an internal crossover structure, with the inflation passage being in communication with upper and lower packer members. The internal inflation passage eliminates the previous necessity of communicating the upper and lower packers with inflation tubing externally coiled around the tool body. A longitudinally intermediate portion of the tool body has a telescoping expansion joint portion to compensate for the longitudinal forces exerted on the body by inflation of the packers.

Abstract:
A plugging apparatus for a gravel packer. The apparatus includes a plug comprising an operating mandrel slidably received in an outer mandrel. A collet is positioned on the outer mandrel. Actuation of the operating mandrel allows engagement of the collet with a threaded portion in the packer for locking the collet into such engagement. The plug is positioned in the packer and actuated to a locking position by use of a setting tool which has a portion press fit on a ring spring mounted on the operating mandrel. Once the collet is in the locked position, the setting tool may be removed from the ring spring. The plug may be retrieved by a retrieving tool which has a collet which engages the ring spring. The retrieving tool is used to actuate the operating mandrel to disengage the collet from the threaded portion of the packer and then to retrieve the plug from the packer.

Abstract:
A method of fracturing a subterranean formation having a well bore extending thereinto. The method comprises the steps of: (a) placing a jetting tool in the well bore such that the jetting tool is positioned within the subterranean formation, the jetting tool including a jetting nozzle; (b) orienting, by rotating the jetting tool about a longitudinal axis, the jetting tool such that the directional orientation of the jetting nozzle substantially corresponds to a predetermined fracturing direction; and (c) cutting a slot in the subterranean formation (and/or casing) by substantially maintaining the jetting nozzle orientation established in step (b) while both (1) spraying a jetting fluid out of the first jetting nozzle and (2) moving the jetting tool longitudinally within the well bore along the longitudinal axis.
