Abstract:

A capital investment that creates operational flexibility using a financial framework and adequately valuing the capital investment using financial mathematics. The capital investment may be an intelligent well completion connecting surface production and injection facilities with an oil and gas reservoir. The intelligent well completion may reduce potential well intervention costs, increase production rate, and increase ultimate recovery. The capital investment described by the financial framework may also affect one or more physical variables that, in turn, affect valuation of a real asset. One or more financial formulas may be applied to the physical variable to adequately value the capital investment.

Abstract:

A method comprises introducing a sequestration fluid through one or more injection wells into an underground reservoir containing at least one native fluid. Each injection well includes one or more injection well reservoir openings through which the sequestration fluid flows from the injection well into the underground reservoir. The method further comprises simultaneously or substantially simultaneously withdrawing a portion of the at least one native fluid through one or more withdrawal wells. Each injection well includes one or more withdrawal well reservoir openings through which the portion of the at least one native fluid flows from the underground reservoir into the withdrawal well. The one or more withdrawal well reservoir openings are proximate to the one or more injection well reservoir openings.

Abstract:

A method includes receiving an indication of a company goal representing a multi-year financial goal. The method also includes determining multiple feasible capital projects for achieving the company goal, the multiple feasible capital projects based on a set of investment opportunity and planning scenarios. The method also includes receiving a user selection of multiple capital projects among the multiple feasible capital projects. The method also includes determining at least one route for each of the selected capital projects, wherein each route indicates a contribution, by the selected capital project, of progress toward the company goal. The method also includes generating a graphical display showing a mountain, wherein the company goal is visually represented as a summit of the mountain and the routes are visually represented on one or more sides of the mountain.

Abstract:

In some embodiments, an apparatus and a system, as well as a method and an article, may operate to access rock property measurements taken within shale basins; to transform the rock property measurements into Estimated Ultimate Recovery (EUR) estimates for wells operating within the shale basins, the EUR estimates being further based on values for shale thickness, porosity, and hydrocarbon saturation measured within the shale basins; to generate metrics for ranking drilling locations, the drilling locations including wells for which the EUR estimates were generated; and to provide drilling coordinates to control a drilling instrument for recovering shale basin resources in the drilling locations according to the ranked list. Additional apparatus, systems, and methods are disclosed.
