Abstract:
Disclosed herein are embodiments of strain tolerant particle structures, methods of manufacturing such structures, and precursors to form said structures. In some embodiments, the structures can be formed of a network of nano-scale walls. The structures can be incorporated into powders, which can then be used for any number of applications, such as microwave plasma processing.

A lithium ion battery has a positive electrode or cathode having a silicon modified mixed metal oxide including a compound having empirical formulawherein y=0.01-0.33; x=0.001-0.15; a, b, and c are each greater than zero; Mis a trivalent metal or a combination of metals with an average valence of +3; Mis a divalent metal or a combination of metals with an average valence of +2; and y+4a+3b+2c is equal to 3 or about 3. Such a silicon modified mixed metal oxide may be exemplified by formula: Li [LiMnSiNiCo]O.
