Abstract:

A self-propelled irrigation apparatus has a plurality of spaced wheeled support towers supporting a linear water conduit having a plurality of sprinklers coupled thereto for irrigating an area of ground thereunder. At least one of the support towers has a drive motor attached thereto operatively coupled through a transmission gear box to at least one of the wheels for moving the support tower and water conduit over the ground. The transmission has a housing forming an oil reservoir therein. The improvement includes an auxiliary transmission oil reservoir attached to the frame of a support tower above the level of the transmission and having an oil line coupled to the transmission housing for maintaining replacement oil in the transmission housing under a positive pressure. The auxiliary oil reservoir is also connected through oil lines to each wheel gear box connection to each wheel. The auxiliary oil reservoir is transparent and includes a stand pipe outlet to separate condensate water from the oil in the auxiliary reservoir and a condensate drain for removal of accumulated water.

Abstract:

A mobile drip irrigation system includes a plurality of drip tubes anchored at a first end to a water supply conduit. As the mobile irrigation system travels across a surface to be watered a second, free end of each drip tube is pulled along the surface to provide precise and uniform water distribution through the drip tubes. A cable extending across each section of the mobile irrigation system is attached to the plurality of drip tubes within that section, with the cable movable via a winch mechanism to shift the position of the drip tubes within that section to correspondingly shift the drag path of the tubes to a desired location. In exemplary embodiments, a lower manifold distributes water to the drip tubes, and in further embodiments a support restraint provides support to the lower manifold.

The forward ends of the drip tubes are anchored and retained to establish relatively fixed intervals of spacing between the forward ends of the adjacent drip tubes to guide the drip tubes across the soil and through growing plants. A pressure-regulated constant-volume flow of water is emitted from ports in the drip tubes.
