Abstract:
Various methods and devices for driving fluid from a syringe are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a syringe driver is provided having a frame that is adapted to seat a syringe, a driver that is slidably disposed within the frame and that is adapted to seat a plunger of a syringe, and a puller that is slidably disposed within the frame and that has a latch formed thereon for mating to an engagement element on the frame. The device can also include a force-delivery element, such as a constant force spring, that is coupled to and extends between the driver and the puller. In use, the puller is movable between a first position, in which the force-delivery element is in a resting position, and a second position, in which the latch on the puller mates to the engagement element on the frame to expand the force-delivery element thereby causing the force-delivery element to pull the driver and drive a plunger into a barrel of a syringe seated within the frame to deliver fluid from the syringe to a patient at a constant rate.

Abstract:
Disclosed are systems and methods for enabling transfer of a drug from a first drug container to a second drug container including a drug identification component that recognizes a first drug container to retrieve drug identifying data for the drug, a storage medium that stores a site-specific database comprising attributes and associated values for a set of drugs including the drug in the first drug container, a processor that obtains the drug identifying data and the attributes and associated values for the drug and produces information about the drug using the drug identifying data and the attributes and associated values, a rules engine that applies one or more rules to the information about the drug to generate drug handling information, and an output unit that outputs markings comprising the drug handling information in human-readable or machine-readable form, or both, to be associated with the second container.

Abstract:
A wearable platform embodied in a belt or flattened patch-like central body shaped to conform to the abdomen provides physiological monitoring of soldiers during field operations or trauma victims at accident sites and makes health state assessments. The platform includes sensors for heart rate, body motion, respiration rate and intensity, and temperature and further contains a microprocessor and short range transmitter. The respiration sensor uses conductive ink in a novel manner. A small square of the ink is coated on an arched structure so that flexing of the arch either to increase or decrease its radius of curvature modifies the resistance of the structure. This is utilized to set the unstressed resistance of the arch structure and to allow a greater range of resistance values capable of measuring distortions in different deformations of the arch. The respiration sensor supplements the motion information provided by an accelerometer sensor.

Abstract:
A wearable platform embodied in a belt or patch provides physiological monitoring of soldiers during field operations or trauma victims at accident sites and makes health state assessments. The platform includes sensors for heart rate, body motion, respiration rate and intensity, and temperature and further contains a microprocessor and short range transmitter. An analog circuit running an algorithm obtains the R-wave period from the EKG signal and produces electrical pulses with the period between pulses corresponding to the R-wave period. A rule based processing engine having an evaluation algorithm is capable of making a medical evaluation of subject condition and determines a confidence level for the evaluation. The rules are subject to variation depending upon the subject population. The information is communicated wirelessly to a local hub for relay to a remote monitor.
Medical Information System With Automatic Reconfiguration And Data Binding
Disclosed herein are methods, apparatus and computer program products for a customizable and contextually relevant medical system with automatic reconfiguration and data binding. Some embodiments relate to an enterprise digital assistant capable of changing its functionality based on context and binding medical information associated with one medical entity, for example, a care giver, patient or medical system/device, to medical information associated with another medical entity. Other embodiments relate to a method for automatically reconfiguring an enterprise digital assistant based on context and performing contextually relevant data binding. In this regard, the method provides a module for processing medical data from a plurality of medical entities and transmitting the data to one or more clinical information systems.

Abstract:
Various methods and devices for driving fluid from a syringe are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, a luer fitting for connecting a syringe barrel to a syringe driver is provided that includes a proximal female end including a socket adapted to be removably mated to a male luer fitting on the syringe barrel. The luer fitting further includes a distal end including a nozzle adapted to receive a fluid conduit. The distal end has a non-threaded axially-oriented annular socket formed therein for removably receiving a protrusion on the syringe driver.

Abstract:
Systems for predicting a drug delivery profile as described herein include at least one drug pump that produces a drug flow. The drug pump dispenses at least a first drug. The system also includes at least one carrier fluid pump that produces a carrier fluid flow, a flow junction structure configured to receive the drug flow and the carrier fluid flow to produce a mixed flow, and a fluid path for carrying the mixed flow between the flow junction structure and a delivery point. The system further includes a processing device configured to predict the drug delivery profile at the delivery point based on determining a predicted time variation of drug concentration at the delivery point using at least a model of the mixed flow. The model includes a plurality of parameters related to propagation of the mixed flow through the fluid path.
