A particulate catalyst is regenerated by upward transport in a combustor having an extended length and separated from combustion gases with a single stage of cyclones. The extended length combustor ends with a termination device arranged to tangentially discharge particulate catalyst and gases into an open disengaging vessel and to achieve a high separation efficiency. Initial high separation efficiency provided by the termination device permits a single downstream stage of cyclones to reduce particulate emissions to acceptable levels. The combination of the separation device and the extended combustor can accommodate changes in particulate densities in the extended combustor without inducing cyclone overload.

Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus and process for prolonging the residence time of catalyst in a chamber for regenerating catalyst. Spent catalyst, perhaps from an FCC reactor, is introduced into a chamber of a regeneration vessel between lower and higher combustion gas distributors. The velocity of gas from the lower distributor is insufficient to entrain catalyst from the bed, and gas from the higher distributor when combined with gas rising from the lower distributor is sufficient to generate a fast fluidized flow condition. The second distributor elevates the location of the transition from turbulent bed to fast fluidized conditions.

Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus for injecting a plurality of uniform jets into an extended dispersion of moving catalyst particles within a reactor vessel. The apparatus comprises a plurality of outer conduits each for carrying contacting fluid and being fixed to a respective opening in a first tube sheet. A plurality of outlet nozzles are each fixed to a respective opening in a second tube sheet which is fixed to the first tube sheet. Feed in the outer conduits are delivered to the outlet nozzles for distribution into the vessel. All of the outlet nozzles can be easily replaced by breaking the fixation between the two tube sheets and securing a new second tube sheet with outlet nozzles to the first tube sheet.
Apparatus For Feed Contacting With Immediate Catalyst Separation
A particular arrangement of an FCC unit creates an immediate and sustained gravity separation of catalyst and hydrocarbon vapors in short contact time cracking operation. A transverse feed contactor ejects the mixture of catalyst and hydrocarbon vapors transversely into a central portion of a separation vessel for vertical disengagement of catalyst from vapors. The vapors travel upwardly in the vessel into an inertial separator that quickly segregates entrained catalyst from the hydrocarbon vapors and collects separated catalyst at a higher elevation for stripping of adsorbed hydrocarbons from the catalyst.

Abstract:
The invention is a process and the corresponding apparatus for producing light olefins from oxygenates in an OTO reactor comprising sending an oxygenate feed stream through a feed stream distributor into an OTO reactor, contacting the oxygenates with a catalyst to produce a mixture comprising light olefins, diolefins, unreacted oxygenate and other by-products; separating the unreacted oxygenate and diolefins from said light olefins and said by-products; and returning the unreacted oxygenate and diolefins to the OTO reactor. The unreacted oxygenate and diolefins are sent through at least one feed nozzle into said reactor at a point separate from the oxygenate feed stream.
Process And Apparatus For Quick Feed Contacting With Immediate Vapor Disengagement
An apparatus and process in which a catalyst nozzle and a feed nozzle are joined together at a joint in a reactor vessel that contains a disengaging transport conduit in communication with a separator. An inlet to the transport conduit is disposed vertically higher than the joint to reduce the quantity of catalyst that enters the transport conduit with the vapor product.

Abstract:
The present invention comprises a process and apparatus for producing olefins from oxygenates in a reactor. This process comprises these oxygenates with a catalyst to produce a gaseous mixture comprising light olefins and by-products, sending the mixture to a single stage cyclone within said reactor to separate said catalyst from said gaseous mixture and then sending said the to a second stage cyclone. The second stage cyclone is located outside of said reactor and it functions to remove the catalyst from the mixture. Then the catalyst can be returned to the reactor after having been treated in a regeneration zone to remove carbonaceous deposits from the catalyst.
