  • Process For Crystal Growth Of Ktiopo.sub.4 From Solution

    view source
  • US Patent:
    47612029, Aug 2, 1988
  • Filed:
    Mar 10, 1987
  • Appl. No.:
    7/024239
  • Inventors:
Peter F. Bordui - Menlo Park CA
Gabriel M. Loiacono - Franklin Lakes NJ
  • Assignee:
U.S. Philips Corporation - New York NY
  • International Classification:
    C30B 904
    C30B 1500
  • US Classification:
    156621
  • Abstract:
Large flow-free crystals of KiTiOPO. sub. 4 and the Rb, Tl, and As analogs are produced by preparing a melt of KtiOPO. sub. 4 or its analog in a flux in which the ratio by weight of KTiOPO. sub. 4 to the flux at the seeding temperature is equal to the saturation value of the KTiOPO. sub. 4 in the flux, suspending a crytal of KTiOPO. sub. 4 in the melt and then slowly decreasing the temperature of the melt while essentially spatially isothermal conditions are provided throughout the melt.
  • Method For Crystal Growth Of Beta Barium Boratean

    view source
  • US Patent:
    53438272, Sep 6, 1994
  • Filed:
    Feb 19, 1992
  • Appl. No.:
    7/838628
  • Inventors:
Peter F. Bordui - Menlo Park CA
George D. Calvert - Sunnyvale CA
  • Assignee:
Crystal Technology, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
  • International Classification:
    C30B 708
  • US Classification:
    117 28
  • Abstract:
A method of growing optical quality beta barium borate; crystals from a pure NaCl fluxed melt. The method comprises maintaining particular thermal field conditions throughout the melt and slowly cooling the melt to cause beta barium borate to crystallize from the melt. The rate of cooling may be at a rate of not greater than 3. degree. C. per day. The method may utilize a seed crystal, suspended into the melt, so that the beta barium borate may crystallize on the seed crystal.
  • Optical Device Using A Cerium-Doped Ktp Crystal

    view source
  • US Patent:
    51930978, Mar 9, 1993
  • Filed:
    Feb 19, 1992
  • Appl. No.:
    7/838627
  • Inventors:
Peter F. Bordui - Menlo Park CA
Richard G. Norwood - San Jose CA
    Ronald Blachman - Sunnyvale CA
  • Assignee:
Crystal Technology, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
  • International Classification:
    H01S 310
  • US Classification:
    372 21
  • Abstract:
An optical element composed of a single crystal consisting essentially of potassium titanyl phosphate, which is represented by the formula KTiOPO. sub. 4 and which is doped with cerium. The optical element has a high optical transmissivity property for radiation from the near-UV to the mid-infrared spectral regions.
  • Composition For Growth Of Homogeneous Lithium Niobate Crystals

    view source
  • US Patent:
    53104480, May 10, 1994
  • Filed:
    Aug 26, 1988
  • Appl. No.:
    7/236960
  • Inventors:
Peter F. Bordui - Menlo Park CA
Richard G. Norwood - San Jose CA
John L. Nightingale - Woodside CA
  • Assignee:
Crystal Technology, Inc. - Palo Alto CA
  • International Classification:
    C30B 2930
  • US Classification:
    423593
  • Abstract:
A new compositional relationship in the starting charge of a crystal growth station (FIG. 1 ) provides homogeneous monocrystalline lithium niobate. A new measurement system (FIG. 2 ) provides Curie point values of significantly greater accuracy then that of conventional measurements. Careful control of the starting charge composition for crystal growth and effective utilization of the measurement system enable the determination of the compositional range of starting charges for producing congruent crystalline production. The composition corresponds to a mol percentage of 48. 35. +-. 01 to 48. 40. +-. 01 of Li. sub. 2 O and the remainder Nb2. sub. O 5 for producing homogeneous crystal whose solidification fraction of the molten charge exceeds that which was heretofore achievable.
