The present invention provides a portable, pocket sized speakerphone device adaptable for use with a cellular telephone, and a method for making such a device. The device reduces howling, including echoing and feedback, sufficiently to enable use of the device as a telephone speakerphone. To reduce howling, one or more of the following may be utilized: attenuation circuitry; sound insulation means; positioning the loudspeaker and the microphone of the device such that the outlet of the loudspeaker for emitting sound from the loudspeaker faces in the same direction as the outlet of the microphone for receiving sound into the microphone, and such that a line extending between the outlet of the loudspeaker and the outlet of the microphone would form a right angle with a line extending in the direction of the outlet of the loudspeaker and the outlet of the microphone face.
Adapter For Coupling Audio Signals To Front-Loading Or Side-Loading Cassette Playback Decks, And Method For Using Same
A cassette adapter for coupling audio signals from an external source to a cassette player for reproduction by the cassette player. The adapter is user-configurable for use in cassette players of the side-load and front-load type. Additionally, the user-configurability of the adapter overcomes problems inherent in prior art adapters, such as the tendency for the fraying and cutting of the connections between the prior art adapters and the sources of the audio signals. The adapter includes a cassette-shaped housing, a record head disposed in the housing in a position substantially adjacent to a playback head of the cassette player when the adapter is inserted in the cassette player, a connector detachably connectable to a complementary connector, the connector positioned along a peripheral wall of the housing, and a conductive circuit coupled to the record head and the connector.

Abstract:
An apparatus sets a telephone to an on-hook state. The telephone has a base with at least one cavity forming a cradle for a handset The telephone also has a handset with an operative surface including a mouthpiece microphone and an earpiece speaker. A first surface of the handset is opposite to the operative surface. The apparatus includes a first arm having a surface, and the first arm responds to the surface being pressed by a portion of the handset being positioned in the base. The first arm moves to actuate an on-hook switch to set the telephone to the on-hook state. The surface of the handset which presses the first arm is the operative surface or the first surface. The first arm responds to the handset having the operative surface facing away from the base. The first arm also responds to the handset being positioned entirely out of the cradle by extending from a first slot in the base. With a portion of the handset being positioned in the cradle, the first arm is moved by the portion to be retracted through the first slot into the base.
