International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
382167, 382172, 358522
Abstract:
Digital images often have undesired color casts due to unusual illuminant sources. A color correction method is provided that uses adaptive segmentation to identify the presence of such casts, estimate their chromatic strength, and alter the images near-neutral-color regions to compensate for the cast. The method identifies most major objects in a scene and their average color. A color space having an achromatic axis is provided with a default gray radius that is used for establishing bins of neutral color in a chromatic plane. The bins are populated with the pixels of the digital color image based on pixel chromaticity. A color histogram computed with chromaticity peaks for the pixels in the bins within the default gray radius. The default gray radius is adjusted to a gray radius based on the chromaticity peaks in the color histogram. The color cast is detected from a dominant chromaticity peak, or two chromatic peaks in the same chromatic quadrant, within the gray radius and color cast distance from the distance thereof from the achromatic axis.
Optical Sensor For Illumination Mixtures And Method For The Design Thereof
Sony Corporation - Tokyo Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G01N 2125
US Classification:
356405, 356406, 356425
Abstract:
An optical sensor system is provided which provides portions of the intensity spectrum of various types of natural and artificial light and combinations thereof. The illumination passes through a series of band pass filters or through a diffraction grating to be sensed by a plurality of photosensors sensing different portions of the spectrum. The photosensors are connected to a processing system which can determine the nature of the illuminants from characteristic areas of the intensity spectrum falling on the photosensors.
System And Method For Color Dither Matrix Creation Using Human-Vision-System Gray Matrix With Cluster Radii
Sony Corporation - Tokyo Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
B41J 2205
US Classification:
347 15, 347 43
Abstract:
A system and method for creating dither matrices for printing in color. The disclosed method shows how to construct arrays for cyan, magenta, yellow, and black primary color printing for which only a single calculation using the cost function is involved. The disclosed method computes only a single dither array. Once the first array is generated, the computer software program creates the other arrays by translating points of the original array to corresponding points in the secondary array. In one embodiment translation is performed using a random number generator. In alternate embodiments, translation is performed by inversion and shifting of the first array.

US Classification:
34099524, 34099512, 701211, 701213
Abstract:
A system and method for effectively implementing an electronic visual map device comprises a visual map application that provides selected route images for display upon a display device in an initial route mode. The visual map application may also provide selected destination images and related destination information for display upon the display device in a final destination mode. The route images and the destination images may be stored locally in a memory device, or alternately may be downloaded as needed from a distributed computer network using a network manager.
System And Method For Effectively Performing A White Balance Operation
Sony Corporation - Tokyo Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
382167, 358516
Abstract:
A system and method for effectively performing a white balance operation preferably includes an electronic camera device that captures image data using a image sensor device. A color manager may then analyze the image data to selectively locate one or more neutral areas in the image data. The color manager may analyze the neutral areas to determine one or more associated color values, and then responsively produce one or more composite color values for the image data by utilizing the individual color values of the neutral areas. From the foregoing composite color values, the color manager may derive one or more color correction values which the camera device may then apply to color channel amplifiers of the camera device to complete the white balance operation. However, if no neutral areas are located in the image data, the color manager may then analyze the image data to selectively locate one or more memory color areas in the image data. The color manager may analyze a memory color area to determine one or more memory color values corresponding to the memory color area.
Color Correcting And Ambient Light Responsive Crt System

International Classification:
G09G 128
US Classification:
345 22, 345 11, 345207, 348325, 348332, 348602
Abstract:
A light-emitting color display system is provided having an optical sensor system in which a plurality of photosensors are directed towards the light source of the light-emitting color display system to provide outputs proportional to the light energy associated with each color. A processing system responds to the outputs over time with the initial outputs and provides a mechanism to correct color changes in the display system. The color light-emitting display system has a second plurality of photosensors directed away from said light-emitting color display system for providing outputs related to the different illuminants and allowing compensation of the light-emitting color display system for the illuminants.
System And Method For Color Dither Matrix Creation Using Human-Vision-System Gray Matrix With Multi-Cell Replacement
Sony Corporation - Tokyo Sony Electronics Inc. - Park Ridge NJ
International Classification:
G06K015/00
US Classification:
358 19, 358 313, 358 319
Abstract:
A system and method for gray-scale or color printing is disclosed. One embodiment of the present invention transposes multiple pairs of pixels at the same time. During this process a record of the values of the cost function is kept. After a good statistical sample of multiple pairs of pixel replacements has occurred, the top five combinations are then selected for further refinement. During this next round of calculations the multiple of pairs of pixels transposed is reduced by a factor of two. In another embodiment of the present invention, the selection of the groups of pixels to transpose is controlled. During the initial iteration stages, a minimal radial offset of separation is imposed upon the pixel selection. Typically this minimum radial offset starts at one quarter of the array height. This selection process ensures that transpositions have the largest mixture around the array.
