Abstract:
An optical routing system and/or switching system having high efficiency switched gratings to the system. This system also includes a unique passive noise suppression device that can be used in multiple channel optical systems to increase channel isolation and reduce crosstalk.
An optical system having at least one switched mirror for switching and routing at least one incident beam of electromagnetic radiation. The switched mirrors are controlled by a voltage source and based upon the desired controllability of the switched mirrors and wide range of switching and or routing of an optical signal can be effected. In addition by the selective placement of components with the optical system polarization effects can be controlled with the optical system to more effectively provide for subsequent signal transmission.
Relaxed Tolerance Optical Interconnect System Having A Grin Rod Lens
An optical interconnect system having a GRIN rod lens, the GRIN rod lens having a first end and a second end, and further having a preselected length, a preselected width and a preselected index of refraction. Means are fixedly secured to the first end of the GRIN rod lens for emitting electromagnetic radiation and means are fixedly secured to said second end of said GRIN rod lens for receiving the emitted electromagnetic radiation. The GRIN rod lens forms an image of the emitting means onto the receiving means and overcomes problems associated with misalignment. Further embodiments of this optical interconnect system are capable of use in even further applications in an environment where alignment problems are at issue.
Methods and systems that compensate for the lateral chromatic dispersion and lateral shifts induced by the propagation through a switching/routing optical system. Utilizing the methods and systems of the present invention, an output of a switching/routing optical system that produces angularly dispersed output beams is achromatized by, first, deviating the output optical beam to a direction sufficient to induce lateral chromatic aberration of the opposite sign to that produced by the switching/routing optical system; and, then, re-deviating the deviated output optical beam to a predetermined direction, where a path length of the deviated output optical beam is a length sufficient to substantially compensate the chromatic dispersion induced by the switching/routing optical system.
An optical switching and/or routing system including a first opto-electronic assembly, a router assembly, a second opto-electronic assembly and redirecting means interposed between the router assembly and the second opto-electronic assembly. Each opto-electronic assembly includes at least one module, each module having a detector, an amplifier and a laser. During operation, the optical switching and routing system of this invention receives the input optical beams at the first opto-electronic assembly and emits a second group of optical beams from the first opto-electronic assembly. The second group of optical beams is received at the router assembly and each beam from the second group of optical beams is routed to a pre-selected location. From the pre-selected locations to which they have been routed, the second group of optical beams is redirected to the second opto-electronic assembly. The second opto-electronic assembly receives the second group of optical beams and emits the output beams.
An optical shuffle/interconnect system having an imaging system defining an input image plane and an output image plane. An optical perfect shuffle is combined with the imaging system for rearranging spatial components of an object located proximate the input image plane into a rearranged image within the output image plane. The optical perfect shuffle having at least one surface used for rearranging of said spatial components incident on the at least one surface of the optical perfect shuffle.
Compact Wavelength Selective Switching And/Or Routing System
Compact systems with reduced insertion loss, and increased switch isolation and switching speed. The switching and/or routing devices utilize a separating sub-system, a switching and/or routing sub-system, and a recombining sub-system.
