    The present invention includes method, compositions and devices including acid-base polymer membranes with high proton conductivity at low relative humidity, good thermal and mechanical stabilities and low methanol crossover. The acid-base polymer membrane includes an acidic polymer mixed with a basic polymer. The acidic polymer includes an acidic group attached to an aromatic polymer, while the basic polymer includes at least one heterocyclic ring structure attached to an aromatic polymer.

  • Abstract:
    The present disclosure relates to a nanocomposite comprising shaped sulfur and a polymer layer coating the shaped sulfur. An alternative embodiment of the disclosure provides a method of synthesizing a nanocomposite. This method comprises forming a shaped sulfur. This may include preparing an aqueous solution of a sulfur-based ion and a micelle-forming agent, and adding a nucleating agent. The method further includes coating the shaped sulfur with a polymer layer. Another embodiment of the disclosure provides a cathode comprising nanocomposites of the present disclosure, and batteries incorporating such cathodes.

    In one embodiment, the present disclosure relates to a rechargeable Li—S battery including a cathode including a firbrous carbon material, a catholyte including a polysulfide, and an anode. In another embodiment, the present disclosure relates to a charged or partially charged rechargeable Li—S battery including a cathode including a fibrous carbon material and amorphous microparticles of elemental sulfur, a catholyte including high-order polysulfides having a general formula of LiS, wherein n is at least eight, and an anode. In another embodiment, the present disclosure relates to a discharged or partially discharged rechargeable Li—S battery including a cathode including a fibrous carbon material and amorphous microparticles of LiS, a catholyte including a negligible amount of polysulfides, and an anode.
