Abstract:
Disclosed herein are wound dressings comprising fibrinogen and at least one procoagulant such as propyl gallate in a therapeutic amount. Also disclosed are methods of treating wounds, increasing an amount of or rate of coagulation of blood from a wound, increasing an amount of or rate of clot formation over a wound, increasing blood platelet counts, activating a coagulation system, increasing the plasma concentration of fibrinogen, and decreasing the activated partial thromboplastin time. Also disclosed are an arterial bleeding model and methods of studying arterial bleeding.

Abstract:
The invention relates to transcutaneous and/or transdermal transport of materials, such as antigens, drugs, drugs, nucleic acids, (e.g., DNA and RNA), proteins, other therapeutic agents, dyes, and the like, into the skin and/or the body. The material is transported transcutaneously and/or transdermally using an antigen presenting cell (APC) by applying the APC and the material on to the surface of the skin.

Gary L. Bowlin - Mechanicsville VA, US David G. Simpson - Mechanicsville VA, US James R. Bowman - Richmond VA, US Stephen W. Rothwell - Columbia MD, US
The invention generally relates to dextran fibers which are preferably electrospun and devices formed from such fibers. In particular, such devices may include substances of interest (such as therapeutic substances) associated with the electrospun fibers. Upon exposure to a liquid the electrospun fibers dissolve immediately and the substances of interest are released into the liquid. Exemplary devices include bandages formed from electrospun dextran fibers and associated agents that promote hemostasis, such as thrombin and fibrinogen.
